They asked me to facilitate a Visual Poetry workshop for members of the cycling club. This was a very impressive set up with Carrick’s Poet Laureate, Billy Fenton, organiser Margaret O’Brien, Laura E. Regan, taking illustrative notes. Article from The Nationalist here. Poetry In Motion VisPo Workshop
Description
A VisPo (Visual Poetry) workshop with cyclists of Carrick-on-Suir, the hometown of cycling legends Sam Bennett and Sean Kelly. Image was taken by Margaret O’Brien of Billy Fenton showing us his colourful hands after creating a visual poem. This VisPo workshop, Poetry in Motion, will be facilitated by Michelle Moloney King of Beir Bua Press and will capture in words and images the experiences of those who :
- • know a sprocket from a derailleur and a quick-shift from a tubular
- • compete or have competed
- • are part of the support network that keeps those wheels turning
- • know the highs and are familiar with the lows
Honestly, this was a great workshop due to the people present, so open and unsure of what visual poetry is or can be and so creative and eager to create. It took palace in Brewery Lane which is spectacular. Margaret O’Brien holds writing workshops here so keep an eye on her social for details.
I aim to share some of the finished work from the workshop, at some stage, on the journal.
