Laureate to Launch Children’s Books Festival with Interactive Doodle Workshop

I received this great news from the office of Laureate na nÓg, nothing like receiving a press release about a cool event.

‘On October 1st 2012, Laureate na nÓg Niamh Sharkey will lead a special illustration workshop at Tallaght Library to launch the Children’s Book Festival 2012. This online, interactive Monster Doodle workshop takes place at 11am and will involve library and school groups from around the country, including Tallaght, Carlow, Carrickmacross, Monaghan, Shankill and Cabra.

Niamh will be using Google Hangout to allow for the participation of up to nine groups during the session.  Google hangout is essentially a free video chat conferencing application and participating groups will use a laptop and videocam, as well as a laptop projector and screen in order to take part.

The event will be streamed via Youtube and also be filmed by the laureate team in Tallaght Library. Libraries  or schools who wish to participate but who are not able to install Google Hangout can watch the event on Youtube and send images and video afterwards to the Laureate’s office and they’ll be included on the Laureate website (www.childrenslaureate.ie).

The Laureate na nÓg Monster Doodle Workshop is being hosted by South Dublin County Libraries, in collaboration with Bord Gais Energy Book Club and Children’s Books Ireland.

Editors’ Note: The Children’s Book Festival runs for the month of October every year and sees libraries, schools and bookshops across the country hosting events with the very best Irish and international children’s writers and illustrators. The 2011 festival comprised of more than 1,200 events and involved almost 50,000 young readers spread across every county in Ireland.
