Do you ever want to be thrilled? Maybe you just need the adrenaline rush of escaping.
I was never one who was in want of a thrill. I grew up with a banshee down the yard, dogs howling and growling at nothing, an old mass path that crossed our land, a famine cottage (a place my ancestors had built during famine times for fellow country men in need of shelter) and, of course, the soup pot.
The soup pot, as my dad told me, was used to make soup for the poor souls using the mass path during famine times.
The soup pot is now a flower pot…right outside our kitchen window.
Watching me.
Reminding me…as I eat.
I didn’t need any thrills from scary movies or books, all I had to do was look out the window or walk the farm and use my imagination.
But now, times have moved on. And I miss it; the rush you get from sprinting the hundred metres from the haunted milking parlour to the house, turning and making a face at the banshee, once indoors and safe.
So, last night I watched some Hitchcock movies. They didn’t do it for me.
I then read some horror stories. Nope.
I watched the news. Getting there.
I started reading Red Ribbons. Heck yeah!
Red Ribbons is by Irish author Louise Phillips. She has won many accolades for her work to date and her debut book is the perfect mixture of thrills, fear, horror and hope.
Now, if you will excuse me as I must adieu to finish the psychological thriller that is Red Ribbons.
This book is available to buy in all good book stores. I grabbed my copy in Easons, Colonel.
How brave of you, Sarah.
I am only getting use to the sort of vibe.
I must admit, that I enjoy the thrill of a scare over a laugh.
Thank you for the comment 🙂
